User Story
Project Brief:
“Design an interactive exhibit for OMSI to teach deaf and hard-of-hearing children about music. Your solution should also be able to accommodate hearing children and their families.”
Research Findings:
As with hearing young people, participating in music activities can have many benefits for deaf children and young people. As well as the vibrations, the visual aspect and performance value to playing, music can help children increase their confidence, encourage learning about emotions and help develop fine motor skills.
Each child’s experience of music is unique and depends on their type and level of deafness, technology used, and their previous exposure to music. children and young people, and helping them to connect with music.
Problem Statement:
Deaf and hard-of-hearing people are not typically thought of as music enjoyers, which is made more noticeable when this population is left out of music education opportunities. As a result, many deaf and hard-of-hearing children are not encouraged to experiment with and learn about music.
User Story Goals:
– Use visual storyboarding to develop concepts about the user experience
– Frame the context and meaning of the project
– Focus on human-centered aspect of design
User Story Scope:
– User stories involve character, desire and action
– Represent an “ideal path” (no/minimal conflict)
– Focus on how things are used, not specifics of functionality (design is vague/pre-concept)
